You don't have to open every program and do it yourself. That's the main reason I use it every once in a while. I barely have used Windows 10 planning to come back to PC in the coming months.
Yes and Windows 10 typically handles its own maintenance tasks on its own. You really don't need to do it at all. The only thing that might take up unnecessary space would be restore points, and you can just disable that feature if you don't want them.

It also wipes your free space and will uninstall programs, etc. All with one click of a button. That's a bit disingenuous. You don't need to resort to the command line for basic system maintenance, we're talking about Windows not Ubuntu.
All the maintenance you need to do in Windows is GUI based, and you don't even need to know exactly what apps to run since you can search for terms in Start. You could save those lines into a text file and call it cleanup.
Bonus, you learn something about how your pc works. Yeah but CCleaner provides backups in case things go wrong for the cache and registry cleaning, and there's still several features not covered by that text file that would require extra steps.
I was not talking about ccleaner but just your statement about having to type the commands every time. While Windows makes an effort to remain backward compatible, any modern cleanup commands would utilise cmd.
The hell do you do to get such amounts of temp files? For me Windows takes care of them and I never have a significant amount. With CCleaner you can tell all your friends and family about how clean you butthole computer is and then they can tell all their friends about their grandson the computer expert.
In windows 10 and I think 7 too this can be done anyway without a third party program. Not really worth it. So I did have ccleaner installed about 2 weeks ago and it was the same version 5.

IMO it's not worth using this software anymore for any reason. If they got compromised this badly over such a long period, they clearly have serious problems managing their own infrastructure. Holy shit problem solved! Obviously it's better to manually open up all your programs with a cache and clear them individually, and when your hard drive does eventually get full, you just toss it out and buy a new one.

I'm certain people with far more experience than I could do far better, but it works for me and was as much an exercise in learning Powershell as anything else. Download from both pirifom's standard method and through fillhippo.
Opened both installers with 7zip, low and behold just like the picture above, the google toolbar and google chrome installers are in the exe that was downloaded from both sources. Run the pirifom download and no prompt was offered for any toolbar through any selection of normal or advanced.
Install from filehippo, still no prompt. So like I gave in to above. It may have stopped offering the toolbar at some point in time, but is indeed still inside the exe. Don't know why they'd waste the space.
Slim installers don't carry this bit of extra weight and yes are released a few days after. This is behavior of someone doing a bundle with normal installers. I always use the portable version of it so I never have to install and I never have had a problem with it.

I think the registry is a lot of programming but also an area that remains after you uninstall a program. However, sometimes you get a program that is stuck and won't delete completely and even then suddenly can't reinstall.
OR when you uninstall certain programs they bomb your computer like AOL. Who knows what else is flying around your hard disk because of companies not able to meet every computer's needs in an area that is easily overlooked and some kind of clutter that might actually distract your computer's concentration.
Because MS has not really allowed full control of your registry I wish the registry cleaner would at least be able to see a before and after CHANGES that have been made, that would be the hottest seller right now among the many services sold seperatly at the store.
That way I can figure out what websites are bombing my computer and how and where they screwed it up, you know, me having control of my computer and delteing that registry entry that is really a virus. Suddenly I had to seperatly uninstall the Startup Icon and found two similar astronomical numbers when I ran Regedit and looked up Corel.

At the time it also was impossible to reinstall. I've just selected the above part of your post because there is a way to achieve what you want, but not by a registry cleaner.
